"Two years ago a friend of mine,
asked me to say some M.C. rhymes.
So I said this rhyme I'm about to say,
The rhyme was def and then it went this way..."

BACK IN THE DAYZ...

LHF Def Artist and LHF Def Writer is similar to a letterstyle
I used to use in my graffiti work back in the early 80's.
It was a great era to grow up in. I remember fondly listening
to Run DMC's "Sucker M.C.'s" (Krush Groove), L.L. Cool J's "Radio"
and Kurtis Blow's "Basketball", while I worked on my pieces.

I was wearing Adidas with fat burgundy laces and a goofy shirt
with way too many non-functional zippers.

I belonged to a crew called Def Artists at the time. "Sine" was my
tag until 1987 when I started to lean more towards commercial art
and cartooning. I never lost my appreciation for the old graffiti styles and wanted to share a bit of that point in time with you
through this font set.

USING DEF ARTIST & DEF WRITER

Both styles include an additional font called "CONVEX" which
creates the convex or prismatic effect. Here is how it works:

1) Type your desired copy using either Def Artist BASE or Def Writer BASE.

2) Duplicate that line and change it to Def Artist CONVEX or Def Writer CONVEX (depending on which font you started with)

3) Change the colors. Generally speaking, best results are achieved
with two lighter colors that will have a good contrast to the black outline. Lime and green, & yellow and orange are two of my favorites.

4) Now align the CONVEX font over the BASE font. You're done!

TIP: Making the "CONVEX" portion the darker of the two colors seems
to work better. I attribute this to the fact that the since the eye
reads left to right -- if we place the dark color on the left, we are essentially creating a "hurdle" that the eye must overcome before reading the remainder of the text.

I hope you enjoy this font and find a few good projects to use it on.
If you do, send me a copy so I can show it off on my Letterhead Fonts site. This font is free to use. You may not sell it or mass distribute it on another website, CD, disk or other media without written permission. Otherwise -- enjoy!
